I downloaded the I.E.S models from the ERCO website.

There are so many models and I dont know how to view them without having to open a file for every model (I open max, scroll throught the files and max shows small thumbnails of the scene).

Is there a scroll down catalogue that I can view the models from?

Something like the PDF files the Evermotion Models have.

Any help will be appreciated.

You can download the"Product Specification Sheets" PDF's for the various Erco luminaires (go to the Erco Light Scout page, click on "download", scroll down and on the left you will see "Product Specification Sheets". Click that and yu can find the sheets yu need.

Alternatively, you can view the IES file using a small app called IES viewer. You'll find everything you need here - http://www.cgarena.com/freestuff/tutorials/max/ieslights/

Thanks for the link shanis.

It still seems a bit tedious to go look through the many pdfs for something that might work in your scene.

A pdf of rendered pictures of the model and the casting of the light on a wall (labeled same as the 3d file) would save the artist alot of time.

Then all you would have to do is scroll down through the pics.

Pick one.

Merge the file with the same name into your scene.

I guess it is a free library but at least its free advertising for the lighting company and the artist can refer the client where to purchase the product.

Maybe I have got it wrong. But how do people with a huge library of i.e.s models & files pick an i.e.s model and get the desired result or close to the desired result in their scene without wasting alot of time?

I only know a few people that use i.e.s files and they have big i.e.s libraries but only use a favourite few.

You've answered your own question!

The advantage of a huge library is so you can use the exact lamp a client specs, when they do. Otherwise, choose a few that you like and use and re-use those few as often as you can get away with.
