ap3
Hi All, I have problem with system unit setup recently and don't know how to fix it. couple days ago import a cad file and start modeling, everything looks ok until accidentally re-import the same cad file which I made changes on drawing with the origin world coordinate. I realize the changes on max immediately, cause whenever time I switch to metric or us standard from display unit scale, it comes out with the origin: 139810'3.0". it should be shown origin: "16777215.0". which is not in this case. Now I have lighting problem due to origin world cooridinate is not match in the system with the scene I imported to max previosly. can not accurately light up the scene. Would appreciate, if anyone can help to solve this issue. Attach is a sample box create in max with unit setup problem. Thanks. Ann
LukeC
I'm not sure if this is your issue, but is it a case of having the wrong units set on import dialogue?
ap3
Is this the way supposed to be? I use default unit most of the time, so not quiet aware of the numerical value of origin: particular in us standard. My computer crashed down last week, I have so much to do to fix it and reinstall all the softwares back etc., Try to do some test render, lighten up an interior scene with ies files and vray. it seems not enough GI, if I bump up a bit number of the intensity, its only wash out the scene, jugglling around with fill lights and vray lights still not quiet right, I use ies files before don't have this problem, the room is no window at all only ies files, vray lights. It may be the unit scale not accurately display or real world scale in order to get the right amount of light? this is what I thought in the first place or something else. I am overwhelming to tackle all the problem at one time, is there any other answer for me. Thanks. Ann
LukeC
It sounds like it is possibly a scale issue but its hard to tell. The only thing I can think of is the scale of the file you imported. For example, if your scene is set to meters and your cad file is in millimeters and you don't specify during import (assuming your using a dwg) that you need to rescale the cad file, then your cad data will come in 1000 times too big. Once again, assuming your importing a dwg, have a look at the top of the import dialogue box, there will be a section to specify what your incoming units are. Hope that made sense. wasteland giant
can't you group everything and move it all to 0,0,0? then, check the scale of say furniture/man and make sure it rightish? I don't see how that will affect your lighting. coud be the environmental settings. check them.
