Devin Johnston
Try turning up the samples in your lights.

sipherlucian
these are the rest of my settings attached. i played around with these last night and got a clearer result but the render time is huge! the main area im concerned about is the opening in the ceiling thats the worst affected, the main light source for the room comes from there, the characters have their own lighting. they came out a better quality. critisism is welcome by the way, its not finished obviously, theres no texturing for the room yet but all the same tips and comments are welcome! thanks devin ill give that a go
DanGrover
What sort of light is it up there? Is it a big plane that's shooting light downwards? If so, it's probably using up a lotttt of samples making them shadows, especially with the occluding objects so close to it (ie the central bit of the ceiling where no light is coming from). What might actually be quicker (though it'd be worth testing of course) is instead of having a plane light up there (again, assuming you do), try having a piece of geometry that fits perfectly in the space where the light is (ie, a donut-shaped plane) and apply a Vray LightMtrl to it? That might cut down on the render times, but I'm not 100% sure by any means. As for the scene, I'd say that the robot is screaming out for some reflections! I know it's a cartoony look (and it looks fantastic), but I really think some nice reflections would look lovely on it.
sipherlucian
Hey dan thanks for the tip ill give it a try! the robot is reflective, a bit but ive textured it to be worn down, i think in this dark room you cant really appreciate the reflections on him, so i may on them in post. there is one rectangle light coming from the ceiling and 1 coming from a small space in the ground as ive marked on the attachment, also in the ceiling is a direct light with volume effect applied to it. the settings on both vray lights are as follows... subdivs: 8 shadowbias: 0.02 i changed them to 50 and 0.002 and noticed an increase in quality but not that much i think these new settings might be too high??? braddewald
Try going to your render settings dialogue and under the settings tab go down to light settings, select all of your lights and change their diffuse subdivisions to something really high, like 500 or 1000. This works for me usually, but only in some situations.
