Compositing in 3ds Max and V-Ray

As far as I'm aware these elements are all computed for the final rgb pass so in theory they shouldn't add to render time. But thats just a guess, they could also require some ram usage too. I seem to recall hearing that rendering out elements will in fact add render time.

 

It might be worth a look around the chaos forums but it might be a difficult search.

extra-tex elements will add to the render time, for example adding a vray dirt extratex can really really increase render times on complex scenes.

 

haven't noticed a increase in the other elements as they get calculated as part of the scene anyhow

 

i started a Nuke course last night as well, so should have something more to add in a few weeks on proper workflows.

Yeah I've seen a couple of vids on comping vray passes in nuke and fusion, but even they neglect to address the issue.

 

Un-multiplying, applying affects, re-multiplying and plugging into the workflow for each element...sounds tedious.
