postite
Hi, I have to make an animation for a client. Very simple model, simple animation but no time I have some kind of blotches (scr-00.jpg) and I’m not able to get rid of them. I use MR and BO Exp. Control. I tried : - A&D mat, Arch mat, Standard mat - With or without AO - Align the face to vue and make planar - Smoothing groups - Subdivide modifier Heuu, no mode idea... Somebody has one ? ABK
are you using final gathering?
postite
Yes, but no GI. I've tried high FG settings. It's a bit better. But render time increase too much... Thx for quick reply. Edit: Here is the result with high settings
ABK
if you render it with no final gathering are the blotches still there?
postite
No, not there anymore But it's ugly
videep
I think that the blotches are due to some modelling problem. Check out the model once again. some places there would be some extra edges/vertex.
wasteland giant
considering the light is shinining on it. Its your geometry. I'd check the normals/smoothing groups/triangles. The mesh came out of archicad or something like that no? I'd remodel. Draw the spline from side view and extrude/surface it out.
ABK
had this problem many a time. at least we know it's the fg bat news is i've absolutely no idea why this happens (apart from your fg settings being too low). I'd personally be tempted to use no fg and make it nice with a few more lights, seperate ao pass, and LOTS of after effects.
postite
ABK: I thought that too. I just checked one more time but no extra edges/vertex. postite
I replace the 3d land model by a simple box. The problem is still there So, it's not a geometry problem !
postite
Ok, I found a solution It's an interpolation issue. Just use the "Radius Interpolation Method" instead of the normal one. But not good for animation because of flickering... Macer
I've come accross this FG problem before. My workaround was to clear the fg map and render from a different angle first (say 90 degrees around). I kept trying until I got an angle that rendered with no blotches (clearing the fg map after any dodgey renders). One time that was all it took, I assume that having the surface render cleanly and storing the initial smooth FG map prevented the blotches from reappearing at different angles. However another time I had to freeze the FG map after the first clean render. Of course this was done on projects where I didn't have time to play around or use higher FG settings. I'm sure some tweaking with the FG would have sorted it though!
SandmanNinja
I loaded your scene into 3ds max 2009 design and get 2 errors when it renders: MSG 0.0 error: Exposure control "Linear Exposure Control" is not supported. MSG 0.0 error: Texture map " ( Missing TextureMap )" is not supported by mental ray and will not render. It also complained about a plug-in being missing, as well as a texture that it could not find. File>Archive collects all of your projects maps, etc and puts them in an easily sharable format/container. It also complains about you using a Linear Exposure Control. If you're using mrPhysicalSun, I'd suggest using the mrPhotographyExposure Controls instead. Try the above and if you need further assistance, please package the file to share all of the objects/textures/etc.
postite
Thank you for your help There is no maps in this project. Just A&D mat... I have some plugins installed but I do not use one for this project I will use the Radius Interpolation. No time anymore.
wasteland giant
why such an obtuse lighting setup for such a simple scene... stripping out your lights - scanline renders fine. so the mesh is fine. a) you have a MR sky in the enviroment b) you have a SKYlight c) you have a sky portal. d) you have lens filter (which probably doesn't affect it) I took out the almost everything and it kind of renders fine. What I have is a MR sky. and a MR omni at the end of it.
Peter M. Gruhn
I got a good rendering right out of the box. /shrug/
