sygboe
Hi, I keep finding when rendering (max vray) that my images on screen look drasticly different just from nodding my headup and down. when i'm lower they look much darker, and when higher they look brighter. both angles lookgood, but i find myself sometimes adjusting the scene parameter, when maybe it's justmy head that need adjusting. i'm trying to sit with my eyes perpendicualr to the screen, but is this right? are there better monitors that reduce this effect? Tommy L
Yes, there are better monitors. It may be that you can get by with what you have as you will automatically compensate for the screens shortcomings. I use cheap monitors. I have 2 samsung 2232BW Syncmasters and I think they are great. I also have a Viewsonic which was the same price. The VS has the same issue you talk about and it has bright spots at the top and bottom. Monitor prices vary wildly. Id recommend the Samsungs. Apparently the Apple screens are very good and the pro level Dells get good reviews.

mi75
x2 on the love for my DELL 30" I also have a 2233BW Syncmaster like Tommy L but I never like the colors on it and I also found if I didn't look straight on, the color would change quiet a bit. simtub
We have the same issue at work...Images end up being very different when viewing on different monitors brands around the office. We have 6 x 24" Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM's and we have been unsucessful in callibrating them to suit any color profile. As we are inhouse, when the Architects come over and look at our work, they are looking down at the monitor and this makes everything brighter which they comment a lot about but we have to tell them to sit down at our seating level to look at the screen for a better representation of what we're doing. In my opinion it is the screen panel quality as I know the ones we have weren't built for professional work, they were advertised more for gaming and multimedia. I have a BENQ 24" at home which cost double the amount of the samsungs and I do not get this issue at all as it is a 8bit MVA panel, the TN Panel monitors are the worse ones. Check out this site for detailed information about panel technology and search the database to see which type your monitor uses. http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/ My BenQ monitor http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/benq_fp241w.htm read this bit about viewing angles and color banding etc http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/content/benq_fp241w.htm#viewing_angles Edited September 21, 2009 by simtub
