hmmmmm

i've just interpreted that as:

'can someone pass on all of there knowledge/notes to me that they have built over the years, because i can't be bothered doing the research/testing'

there has been a bit of discussion recently about people being hesitant to help others but when the questions are like this i can see why.

maybe you should try and re-word your question? people won't be willing to help if you haven't even made an attempt to find out the answer yourself.

so what have you tried?? what are you trying to light?? night or day?? artificial lights or not?

there is a learning curve to max and as you are new i suggest you go and read the tutorial files that ship with the program. i can tell you haven't done this otherwise you would have noticed that there is a step by step guide to lighting an exterior. although its for mental ray, the same applies for vray.

how about try a search in google for exterior lighting in vray

this was the third result when i did a search 2 seconds ago http://en.9jcg.com/comm_pages/blog_content-art-150.htm

you have to put a little bit of effort in yourself unfortunately.

if everyone was to ask questions like you just have then nobody here would ever have any knowledge of these programs, which is what these forums rely on. people have put the effort in and so are able to contribute and help people who are having difficulty, not those who haven't even tried

I was taught to be respectful of a place where I was new. I'd never dream of going to the Elks Club and asking the Grand Poobah for the secret handshake on my first visit.

I'd introduce myself, hang around a bit, have a read of the (free!?! incredible! what a wealth of material!) club library, make some positive comments about other people's work... and then... then... after 10 or 20 visits... then I'd actually have a feel for the vibe of the place to ask some questions.

Perhaps partially a language thing, so the question comes out even worse than intended. To me it seems that there is a strange wave of "Self Intitlement" that is getting bigger and stronger, I have to watch what I say when I see post like this as I can end up snapping at someone who really doesn't deserve it.

If you saw the emails I get, "Here is my rendering, fix it and make it look right, I don't know how" or "Here is a CAD drawing of a house I did, make it into a 3D model and send it back to me". I am not talking about a client or even a potential client, just random people basically assuming I will be there personal tutor or worse, slave!

I take my hat off for someone (Dave) just not ignoring the post all together and explaining/educating the initial poster on possible alternative methods to getting an answer and those afterwards who offered advise as well.

Now excuse me, I have a rendering to go fix and a house to model! ;)

I think that the question is framed in a wrong way!!!

But if this is what the user would like to say then the best way to find answers is GOOGLE them out. Infact if a person does visit cgarchitect.com frequently, He could learn even from viewing the C&C's that the members post.
