anthony cortez
Sorry in advance for such a late notice posting - but, better late than never! Anyway… Quick Highlights: 1. What & Where 2. Featured Presenter 3. SIGGraph ‘09 Wrap-up 4. Book RAFFLE! 5. Add’l Info & RSVP 1) What & Where: * Next NYC Max User Group Meeting will be held on Sept. 24, 2009 from 7-9:pm * Location: Pratt Center for Continuing Studies 144 W 14th St, New York, NY 10011; 2nd Floor Room 213 * Get Directions: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&dq=Pratt+manhattan&daddr=144+W+14th+St,+New+York,+NY+10011&geocode=4479408014363224710,40.737879,-73.998133&ll=40.737879,-73.998133&iwstate1=dir:to&iwloc=A&f=d 2) Featured Presenter: Our user group’s very own Kim Lee will return to us - and give us a great presentation on WorldsAway Production’s recent work on the 2nd season of the TV broadcast show - “Crime360” - as well as discuss the new book in which he wrote a chapter. He will talk about some of the other chapters (as opposed to his) which cover some very hi-end topics. It is THIS book which will be raffled during the meeting. Some of the topics in the book include working with MentalRay as well as Green Screens. For his talk on “Crime360” - he will present the practical use of Motion Capture, Motion Flow and BiPeds/Character Studio - as used to produce some of the more sensationalized segments of the show. As its not always about making it look like an accurate representation of the crime - but, instead to make it look dramatic and interesting. Kim will give an overview of the character animation process involved in the making of an episode - and show you how you can make Character Studio - a tool that’s built into Max - work for you! And - what WorldsAway Production has to do to pump out a new Episode of the show Quickly! 3) SIGGraph 2009 Wrap-up A bunch of us from the NYC Max User Group had the chance to go down to New Orleans this past August for SIGGraph 2009. And, since we managed to coordinate in advance about going - we ended up hanging out together for a number of events at SIGGraph, as well as share some dinner and drinks - and even go to some of the famous SIGGraph parties. But - what did we see at SIGGraph? What were our impressions? What were some of the highlights? And - WHY did we go to SIGGraph at all? These questions and more will be answered at the meeting - along with showing some pictures and videos of what occurred at SIGGraph. If you even wanted to know more about the big annual SIGGraph conference - then now is your chance! Find out what the hype is about. And, if you don’t already know about SIGGraph - now you can learn why this conference is so important to the graphics community and industry in general. FYI - SIGGraph - Special Interest Group in Computer Graphics - one of the biggest sub-groups of the ACM (Assoc. of Computing Machinery) - the largest computing organization/club in the world! 4) Max Book RAFFLE!!! The book - “3ds Max 2010 Architectural Visualization - Advanced to Expert”. In addition - for those interested in the raffle - the only stipulation is that the company/publisher will want your name and email address for those who want to enter the raffle - which will be used for marketing purposes.
