WL500GP
Ok, trying here to then, this issue is truly driving me nuts, Right, have done some arch-viz, loading IES files etc and lit/render with mr, now for some reason i can’t get proper light distribution from the light sources, please se attached pic, the tubes in the fittings should cast light evenly spread, not like a spotlight as they do appear to be now, did get word from manufacturer of these specific fittings that from 3dsmax 2009 onwards max does not calculate/treat the IES files proper anymore and is know to them, and me to now, as a bug, anyone know of a fix for this? pics, resembles the troublesome interpretion that max does out of the .IES file, and also a correct interpretion of the very same light fitting as resembled in a HW render from within DIALux Cheers, K. Stephen Thomas
I'm not sure exactly the problem you're having but it looks from the image like you have the light shape set to point. If you go into the Shape/Area Shadows rollout of your light then change this from point to line or rectangle.
WL500GP
thanks stef.thomas well, the .ies files themselves have the distribution(shape) for light fittings(provided by the manufacturers), i have tried change to tube and line (didn't help either case, as tubes they where blowing out and became incredably intense, as shapes not that much difference), but that of sorts takes out the whole meaning with "correct" lighting with .ies files it's just that from max 2009 onwards it seems that the .ies data isn't interpreted in a correct way, or at least that's what the manufacturer of the light fittings i've used say, i hope there is a fix but so far nothing, according to manufacturer only option(as far as they know) is to duplicate the lightsource in the fitting to say 4-5 and make adjustments for that, thing is that the scene have a staggering amount of lightsources as it is, *edit, to clarify, the pic to the left from 3dsmax that looks like the light is coming from a spotlight is using .IES data, although for some reason it doesn't do a good job anymore with the .IES data, as I understand pre max2009 treated .IES correctly, as example DAILux still treats the IES data correctly,(pic to the right), hope this makes sense Cheers, k.
