Cesar R
ok, I will buy a LW 7 CD off of ebay, I will only get the CD no manuals or anything. anyway I wanted to know if it would be ok to use that copy or not? if not i'll just relist it or something. I have bid on a sealed box for $600 - is that a better option. Anyway, if I want to model and render a house do I model windows, door, and details as separate objects and assemble the house in LW? or no? do I assemble it all in modeler. Cesar R
are any advantagles of assembling in one mode orver the other? - DAVID help!
dwright
Hi Cesar, you should get an original copy with manual. Most software sales on ebay are not legal and if they are, you may have problems transferring the license. Take the hit and buy the software from a reseller. Allen Bussell
Cesar, I agree with David on this. Best to buy the software from a reputable dealer. Perhaps with 8 being released soon, any remaining copies of 7.x will be reduced. (that's how I bought 5.0 years ago). Anyway, well worth the money spent to get updates and tech support. For assembling the model. I like to have the parts together in modeler - easier to edit later. Just plan carefully and name your surfaces, then use layers if you want to animate doors, windows etc.

Richie
Hello > you may have problems transferring the license. If its a legal software and its not stolen transfering the licensing data is NOT a problem. You can ofcourse buy from e-bay. Its safe and its OK, IF: 1. Do NOT pay anything in advance ie. use the "fraud protection" service from e-bay... 2. Check the item data with NewTek (the serial Number, dongle Number and last registration) Think about there are many honest people out there too. Regularry a dealer get max. 25% of the selled article, so you can save more than 40% if you buy a used software. IMHO the printed manual is not worth the paper its printed on. If you want, I can assist you on this. But do not forget: NEVER PAY IN ADVANCE ! Richie ps you should buy from a dealer only, if he can give you lw support and at least "getting started" for free ! Cesar R
Richie, that is very true. - what do you mean by "getting started" for free ?
Richie
Hello With getting started, I meant: 1 or 2 hours of training in LW. Especially if you are a beginner. If you have a good start, its 50% chance you will win the race A good reseller will give you a reason to visit him again (or to buy the next upgrade from him). You should also check, if the software you are bidding for is not NFR or a Student Version). NewTek also often have a good offer for LightWave. So, a "used" copy of LightWave is pretty worthless today (no matter which version). Richie
Allen Bussell
What great advice, Richie. Training is essential. I'm a book person myself - bought Dan Ablan's book for 5.0 even before I purchased LW. Allowed me to be productive almost immediately.
