gfriedman
just started trying displacement for a grass surface but it's taking far too long. I tried setting up a distributed rendering over a network but I dont think the added muscle is contributing to the prepass. Any tips on improving speed? Devin Johnston
If you're trying to use 3D displacement on a large area you can forget about quick render times no matter how fast your computer is. Most of the time 2D displacement works best and it's much faster, it really depends on what were talking about though.
gfriedman
good to know about 2d displacement - i thought I read somewhere that 3d is faster, i guess not - I still am not sure what the difference really comes down to except that it seems like it has different mapping controls... thanks
Devin Johnston
2D is used for things like large planes of grass or any large flat area but it also works in other applications too.
