bmcgonigle
I know there not the most exciting but they pay the bills so I'm hoping to get some feedback and suggestions on improving them.
slinley
You really need to sort out the black area under the desk in the 2nd image and the 1st image looks a little flat.
Stephen Thomas
Would help if you listed what software/lighting/GI solution you are using too.

bmcgonigle
I'm very new to mental ray so what you see is from several online tutorials. Can you give me some direction on the number of bounces?
Gary Ledgerwood
In the first image, I would vary the wood texture. It looks weird that it repeats almost indentically on all three panels, just slightly stretched on the right panel. Also, that black below the desk looks like the evil smoke from Lost. I am not going under there.
bmcgonigle
I guess that creature is from a lack of GI. I've been playing with adding GI and it made an instant difference on that view. And I see what you mean with the wood grain. Thanks!
SandmanNinja
Interiors are all about Bouncing light around. I use GI for interiors as it tends to give good and fast results.
Stan Zaslavsky
i'd drop your High FG setting to about Low or Medium and have 1 or 2 diffuse bounces. (as long as you have an enclosed area to bounce light around - so do you have a plane under the desk? If you're using Mr - have a look at a book called Rendering with Mental Ray and 3D Studio Max by Joep van der Steen - it's a really good reference with lots of mental ray light settings explained good luck
bmcgonigle
I settled out the dark under belly of that beast using GI and making some changes to my studio setup. I actually had the model enclosed in a bowl shaped spline which was killing the light from the skylight. I'm tweaking settings and lighting now to improve things a bit. Thanks for the help and suggestions. I'll post an update in the next day or so.

On set Segal was known as the F.O.C. (Fat Orange C*nt).

SandmanNinja
My wife use to be a fan of his, but now she just shakes her head when yet-another-B-movie of his is released. "Oh look, 'Steven Segal is a SEAL-busted-down-to-a-cook-fighting-The-Man-who-wants-to-ruin-the-environment-for-oil-on-a-boat-and/or-train'..." Gary Ledgerwood
I heard on Howard Stern yesterday that Segal has a reality tv show coming out where he is an police officer. The trailer for the show sounded horrible. It might be an intersting trainwreck to watch...
