claudioarchi
Hello LightWavers: Do any body know how to do soft shadows with area lights or at least to control the density of the shadow, and btw whithout plug-ins i can't afford to pay for some of them. thank you all in advance
dwright
Increasing the size of the area light and increasing the size of the quality of the shadow will result on nice diffused soft shadows. You can also model your own light in modeler by creating an object of any kind as long is made of 4 point polygons, then you can convert these into luxigons and on lightwave turn them on, check your manual on how to do this. Each 4-point polygon will be converted into an aerial light. You can also convert them into multiple cone lights with shadow maps, this is an old trick, but it works fine for us. ingo
You can also use the spinning light trick to replace the area light with a spot light, a short explanation is here.
dwright
Yes, the spinning trick is also a good one, I personally think that with luxigons you can do a lot of tricks without the spin I will so some tests to show my own soon.

Mindseye
Hi there. I noticed some talk about spinning lights. I found some great pluggins for faking radiosity. I use this stuff alot and you can get very nice results for even you most tight fisted clients. Eki's plug pack
