marksee
Wanted to see if anyone out here has ever sold models on sites like turbosquid, the 3dstudio, etc... Looking back at previous projects I have a ton of random models of misc. objects that I created and was thinking of trying to sell them on 3rd party model sites. Has anyone done this successfully? I know that most sites can take a pretty hefty percentage, but their just sitting there not being used... Does anyone have any tips/warnings/advice?? I certainly don't plan on getting rich, but in this economy a little more cant help right! Thanks!!

EddieLeon
I have never sold 3d models on Turbosquid or similar, so I can't really give you any advice. But, I was hoping someone would post their experiences with pricing and percentages. I created my own 3d assets site 2.5 years ago and I'm thinking of opening it up to sell other peoples models also. My guess is that the split is 50/50 or 60/40...
neil poppleton
We sold many models 6-7 years ago through turbosquid. I seem to think the split was a 50 - 50, but they have now changed the system so if you pass certain levels of sales you get a 60 - 40 split. More info. should be on their site. I do remember the set up, uploading assets and their system was very simple.
marksee
Yeah - Turbosquid is 40% royalty for new members - I just wonder for that hefty of a percentage if it will be worth my time. I don't know anyone who has sold on these sites so I was curious what kind of sales to expect? Obviously this would be contingent upon the demand of the model/quality - just generally curious... neil poppleton
I guess it's what you want to sell. We had a few models that were quickly uploaded, and we have received a few hundred dollars each year, which is nice. 40 - 60 split in their favour is a bit rich.. EddieLeon
40 - 60 split in their favour is a bit rich.. Yeah. That sounds high, but isn't it relative to how much you want to make vs how much it's being sold for? Also, who sets the price? Is it the artist or the website? neil poppleton
A few years ago when we last uploaded you proposed a price, but the asset was then reviewed by turbosquid and set by them.
