cmiller3030
The real question is How much will it cost ? Yes that is the real question. since there is no price listed I imagine it's very far out of our(the firm where I work) price range:(
Devin Johnston
I'd like to find out about work flow between 3D Studio and Sandbox, is it a simple export of the model or what?
Devin Johnston
Ok it does seem that you can export models with materials directly from 3D Studio to Sandbox. The setup of levels with all their imported objects and animated assets doesen't seem to be that hard. What I didn't see was how you were supposed export what you created into a format that and Xbox or Playstation can use.
Sketchrender
The video on the site is amazing. Looks like they only give it out to big companies or companies doing cutting edge stuff. The free lancer wouldn't get a look in. Pity looks amazing.
Crazy Homeless Guy
I thought CryEngine was one the engines that need to be licensed for somewhere between $100,000 and $500,000? ...I am just going from memory, but I thought it was incredibly expensive, and aimed at advanced video game developers. I don't know that they won't sell it to a freelancer, I think it is more that most freelancers simply can't afford it. Again, no facts in this message, just trying to remember what I have heard in the past.
beestee
...I thought it was incredibly expensive, and aimed at advanced video game developers. I don't know that they won't sell it to a freelancer, I think it is more that most freelancers simply can't afford it. Again, no facts in this message, just trying to remember what I have heard in the past. I am pretty certain this was the case with CryEngine1, and maybe even 2, but this latest iteration has the following specific licensing options: • Game Licenses Game Development licenses are available to established games studios. We do not issue engine licenses to individuals, nor do we provide the engine for non-commerical purposes, such as Mod Teams, via this site. For information about obtaining the Mod SDK please visit our website at www.crymod.com. Get to know more... • Simulation License Simulation licenses are available to companies who wish to work with our cutting edge technology in areas outside of the traditional realm of game development. These include companies working in commercial training, medical imaging and interactive simulations. Get to know more... • Visualization License Visualization licenses are available to companies working in offline visualizations, such as special effects and video production companies, architectural and engineering companies looking for an interactive product for visualizing their concepts in real time. Get to know more... If they are now targeting architectural and engineering companies with that visualization license, I would assume that the price point would surely not exceed the combined total cost of all other software used by these companies. But with features like this I could see it residing above the upper end render engines, such as Renderman...and it is certainly worth much more than Quest3D, which isn't necessarily cheap. Real-time Dynamic Global Illumination CryENGINE® 3 features a novel real-time dynamic global illumination solution, fully optimised for current and next generation platforms. For the first time – without pre-computation or geometric limits – you can experience light-bounces, colour bleeding and specular effects in a real-time game engine – unified for all static and dynamic objects.
