Solideigratia
Hello fellas , am in a bit of a bother. My hp530 laptop just died on me and am looking to get me a desktop. What advice would you give in terms of configuration keeping in mind that am working on a students budget and yet somehow i need a machine to run 2d and 3d programs. I sort of favour an intel over an amd, but am open to ideas.
AJLynn
Best bang for the buck is single CPU Core i7 configs that can take 6GB of RAM (use 64-bit Windows) and have midrange consumer level (GeForce or Radeon) video cards that don't use "Shared Memory", "TurboCache" or "HyperMemory" (that last part is important). Don't get conned into buying a Quadro or FireGL video because a salesperson says you need one for 3D apps, and anything really new like SSD hard drives or anything "workstation" like Xeon CPUs is not good performance per dollar. rider650
If you`re on a tight budget, I`d get an i7 920 and overclock it. It`s easy and if you don`t overdo it it`s also rock stable. Spend like 50 $ more on the cooling and get 300 $ worth of extra performance.
