SandmanNinja
I think I've finally found a good Sky Dome combination that I like. Here's a render of an artsy cube with glass and a stainless steel frame. I didn't like the reflections the A&D Glass (thin) gave me, so I adjusted the BRDF a bit. You can see the reflections a bit better in the 10-second animation as the camera swings around the cube. The HDRI for the Sky Dome is from the Dosch collection. I wrote the individual frames out as 16-bit .BMP files, so I used Gamma Correction. (if I wrote them out as 8-bit .JPG files, I would NOT have used the Gamma Correction) http://www.virtual-interiors.net/Aussie3D/skydome/skydome_01.html Be interested in your comments on the skydome and lighting (not the Borg cube) Edited October 18, 2009 by SandmanNinja

Crazy Homeless Guy
Two things strike me off hand... 1) The sky looks a little flat for the lighting of the scene, maybe apply curves or level controls to pump the contrast. 2) While I don't see the location of the sun in the cloud map, the position of your sun looks like t is a different angle from the position of the sun in the cloud map. The sun highlight are on the left side of the cloud, but the position of the sun for lighting appears to be fairly overhead, and slightly to the right. http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=34360&d=1255838846 Edit: It would also be nice to have a progress bar in your animation file to scrub back and forth with. That might just be personal opinion though.
SandmanNinja
Thanks for the feedback, Travis. re: animation - that's straight from AE and I don't use it a lot, so I let it "do it's thing". You cna right-click and replay the animation and zip to the front/end, but a scrub timeline would be handy. re: Sun - there is an mrSun in the scene, and it never occured to me to align the mrSun with the sun in the HDRI. Yes, the mrSun was directly overhead. good points, all taken onboard. Thanks again
