remKa
Hello guys, I'm trying to render an AO pass with vray lightMat + vray dirt in the override material slot, but i always get a full white image...I tried to use the well known script, same thing happened. I turned GI on and off, turned all my lights on and off, uncheck "hidden lights", turned the gi environement override and the environement map on and off as well I tried also the vray extratex + vray dirt in render elements section, no luck neither. I don't understand :/
WAcky
The easiest way by far is the Extratex method. What was the problem when you tried this method? It might be a good idea to post some pics of your setup.
remKa
I get a full white image too :/ http://img269.imageshack.us/i/82083038.jpg/ In this exemple, I let the lightning with GI (irradiance map and light cache) "ON" + Vray environement override
Brian Smith
Here is a 3 page tutorial I wrote on AO that should help. http://3dats.com/london/3DATS_Ambient_Occlusion_Tutorial.zip
remKa
I used Hampton_Inn-AO, I selected camera 1 and hit render, here is what I get :/ http://img269.imageshack.us/i/hamptoninnao.png/
WAcky
When you use the extratex pass, you don't need to change any render settings. It should render out along side your beauty pass just fine. Be sure your units are set up correct because with an AO distance of 1 meter that sphere will need to be pretty big for the AO to show. Can you upload a basic scene setup and I can have a look at it for you?
Nic H
yep use extratex element with radius set correctly. Dont use that crappy plugin.

WAcky
hrm. Strange. It seems to work fine for me but I'm using a newer version of Vray and max to you. I would try the most basic scene setup you can do. Plane. teapot Physcam vraysun turn on GI enable VFB add your extratex with dirtmap loaded. pay attention to the size of your object and the dirtmap radius. goooood luck.
