Ravi.G
Hello all, I was able to get a old IBM Intellistation from a closing office. It is the model here: Can't post links, It is a IBM intellistation m pro 6850-67U. PCmag has a review on it. This computer, due to its age, is very poor in performance, the only reason that it is better then my normal computer is the graphics card (Nvidia quadro 900 XGL). This computer has: 2x 2ghz xeon processors 1GB DIMM (takes 4GB) 18GB SCSI hard drive (takes 6 internal, 6 external) Graphics card mentioned above This sounded decent at first glance, but due to the old technology, is quite bad. A benchmark put this at 1 GFLOP, my pentium 4 beats that. What can I do to improve this, or should I scrap it? If I do not make this suitable for animation (I use blender), I will turn it into a FTP server for my website.
Tim Nelson
Well, the sad fact is....its probably cheaper to build a newer faster system than it is to try to keep your old boy afloat. Just trying to upgrade the processors alone would cost you as much, and even then they wouldn't be as fast as a newer cheaper quad core processor. And for animation its not about your video card, only pure processing power. Have fun and build a new system!
Slinger
I would buy a 1tb drive to stick in it and make it a storage computer personally. for work flow, it is not worth trying to salvage.
