I may have my terms wrong, but i believe the SU-4 is what you stick on older flashes to enable them for CLS, Andrew is right in that the SU-800 would be the one you'd need to enable wireless commander mode on an older camera

I'd probably just lean towards a $20 flash sync cord myself, as once you get addicted, your next body purchase will probably have commander mode anyway! ;)

There are a few other off brand flashes that will work with the CLS, most popularly is the Nissin

Tim, what body are you using? i can work wirelessly with my d90 by setting commandermode and in the same menu turning off my onboard flash (--)

its really quite awesome!

Pardon! reading is hard, I see that you have a D60.

Yes, D60. Starting to see limitations with it now that I'm starting to use it for more serious endeavors. The good thing is that I bought it brand new for only $400 so I've definitely gotten my money's worth and could probably still sell it for what I paid if I decide to upgrade.

So your d90 is able to control the sb-600?

Yes, the D80/90 and the 200/300/700+ (the real pricey ones!) can control it out of the box

you didn't get the wrong flash, with the d60 you would need another item to Control wireless with regardless of whether you'd gotten the SB-600/800 or 900.

the primary differences for us enthusiast types between the different flashes are that the 600/800/900 are able to be controlled wirelessly, while the 800/900 can be the controllers if needed.

otherwise it seems to come down to Size 600 being VASTLY smaller than the other two, and the bigger ones can zoom a bit further, and have a longer throw/stronger power output

Its fun, addicting playing with 3 point lighting, and I've already long since pissed off the wife and kid with flashes :) I had to store it away for a few months to stop getting dirty looks!
