amer abidi
XP 32bit will only use up to a maximum of 3GB (and thats only if you boot with the /3GB switch enabled), while XP64bit will use all the RAM installed on your machine. BIG difference.

BIG difference. thanks for the reply. would the only difference be the extra released RAM, or would the software and OS all run quicker too? say i lose 500meg of RAM would that be the only difference? i'm running windows via bootcamp on a macbook pro (64bit) i'm only asking as I'm still only going to be using 4gig of ram, and if it's not really much difference i'll stay on 32bit and save the hassle. I'd hate to sound like a sad computer geek, but switching to 64bit was one of the best things i've ever done in my life, much better than quitting smoking 3 years ago I cant possibly work on a 32bit machine anymore... id rather smoke again! ihabkal
that little extra ram you gain can mean the difference between max crashing when you attach objects or do any memory intensive procedure and it not crashing and you happily continuing your work. Also this could be a step for you to upgrade to 8GB ram in the future.
