LuckyST
by fields, I mean fields like the ones in this photo http://www.dublinglidingclub.ie/albums/landscape/dmk_airfield_and_nearby_fields.sized.jpg I've been doing many aerial "renderings" and I've usually used ortophoto, but they usually have limited resolution, and look flat. so any idea on making these (except displacing the map) Edited October 25, 2009 by LuckyST

SandmanNinja
Displacement isn't even an issue at this scale - there must be hundreds of billions of blades of grass in that image. Consider Google Earth or aerial photos like you have.
LuckyST
nah. I was thinking of creating something that would be good looking at different levels... I tried using "tiles" with ground maps... and then another layer of trees above it... but that's not good enough. I was hoping there was some texture pack, or some program/plugin that's designated for such things.
Crazy Homeless Guy
You might be able to search Flikr for high res content of this type, maybe find something with a creative commons license. Then use those straight, or piece them together into something that works for the shots you need. As long as you do not need to be super accurate on the site, I would think the photos on Flickr would be better than trying to piece together a Google map or something. AndyC
Are you looking for something with LOD's or just a quick way to make the fields look real at one LOD? Sorry if I missed something.
edgemaster
Have you tried Normal maps with some bump maps mixed together. Depends on your image thou how the result will be. But once you get that working maybe working with a mulit sub-object material. (You would need to break up your mesh thou)Then find a plugin that would random select faces to give it the different type of grass and keep doing this till desired result it aquired.
