markf
I have an upholstered chair to model. I have one brochure photo of it that shows it from typical perspective. Photo taken from the front a bit to one side of center and looking slightly down. Standard manufacturer spec sheet photo with HxWxD dimensions listed. My question is how do I use the perspective photo to guide my modeling? I am quite familiar with using front, side and top view drawings, mapped onto planes for reference. Does anyone have any good tricks for using just one perspective photo as a reference? TIA for any help. Edited October 26, 2009 by markf
markf
Perhaps a dumb question so no replies? Or maybe I am not explaining my question very well. Does anyone have any technique they like to use for this, like mapping the perspective photo to a plane and then somehow doing all of the modeling in a perspective view? That seems like it would be allot more difficult then modeling in the front, side , top views. Or somehow distorting the perspective photo and getting a side and front view that can be mapped onto planes in front and side views?
Chad Warner
Here's a tutorial that 3DATS put together that uses a perspective image as a template: http://www.cgarchitect.com/upclose/VI/Week21/VI_creating3DFurniture.pdf
markf
Thanks Chad. I had seen that but forgotten about it. I have the 3DATS books that have some furniture modeling tutorials also. The one you provided a link to is interesting in how it starts out modeling with the perspective reference photo in a front view. One piece gets modeled and then the reference photo is not really used again and most of the rest of the screen shots are from the perspective view port. Thanks again for posting that. I'm going to go through that again when I get done with this. That guy form Interos is really, really good.
