Matt Sugden
Hi, I'm currently rigging up several objects such as JCBs diggers, that sort of stuff. And in the most part I'm getting there with my hierarchys and look at constraints, however i am encountering a similar problem a lot of the time, which is when objects are getting to a certain point, they are rotating on themselves 180 degrees in a perpendicular axis. (Sepcifically the pistons, as I rotate the crane arm the piston themselves rotate on their own axis). I assume I must have to lock the axis somehow but I've tried various alternaitves in the Link Info, and nothing seems to be ahaving the desired effect. Is this a common issue, and any ideas how to avoid it, thanks, I'm using max by the way. Edited October 28, 2009 by Bewdy
Scott Dombrowski
I haven't tried this tutorial, but I saw it the other day and it might help you out. http://www.joleanes.com/tutorials/flippingless/flippingless_01.html
William Alexander
It's a common problem in animation in general with rotation ansd such the link posted pretty much sums it up...in theory. Scripting typically is not required to solve it. Rotational limits may be one way to solve the problem in Max. Are you using Reverse IK?
Matt Sugden
Thanks for the link, which does sum the problem up, but on scim reading does seem fairly complicated. I'll have a look into the reverse IK first, thanks
