jasonio
How do I start modelling a polygon object from scratch? Rather than creating an object, how do I just draw a new polygon object snapping to arbitary points? Basically, I want to draw some polygons to infill between some meshes. The existing meshes are at odd angles and I'd like to snap to them as I create. But I'd like the object I'm drawing to stay as a seperate object. In Softimage I just press n and draw away. Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance.
DanGrover
You could create a plane on a flat surface. Then right click on the 'snap' icon up the top (a 3 with a magnet next to it) and check 'vertex', then snap the four initial verts of the plane to whatever you want. You'll need to convert the plane to edit poly to do this. From then on, you can just click 'create' under Polygon in the edit poly modifyer, and create them wherever you want - including connecting to other verts if you keep snap on. However, these verts (being in separate objects) won't be welded, so you could have some lighting issues.
JonRashid
Your other option is to just build off one of your existing objects. Once you have done that select all your new faces and detach to new object.
Verma
If you're using Max 2010, search for "PolyDraw" in the help file and you'll see bunch of options on drawing polygons. This is part of the new Graphite Modeling Tools.
