ruskie77
Hi everyone, I hope someone out there can help! here's the setup max 2010 64bit vray 1.5sp3 vrayrt 1.5 (all legit) rig dell precision t7500 12gb ram quadro fx3800 (latest 190 drivers) dual xeon quad (8core, hyperthreaded to 16) windows 7 direct x 9 hardware rendering (in viewports) its a lovely machine to work on, and up until mid week, I've had no problems with it until... I create a scene, and when I'm putting my Vray Phyical Camera in the scene, all is fine... as soon as you select a camera view in a viewport, it crashes.. sometimes immediately sometimes after 30seconds or so. I've monitored the task manager, and there's no spiking on ram or processor usage, and it's the same with or without vrayrt... of course, it makes it quite tricky to set the cameras up, and to finalise the scene. My usual workflow is to animate the camera over 10 frames or so, so I can "batch render" 10 different shots, and this has always been ok. I did alter a few preferences, but mainly in file handling and gamma, but i cant see how this wouldve caused it. also I've tried a reinstall of all the software and it happens bothe pre and post 3ds sp1. can anybody help? it's getting really frustrating and i'm about to launch my mouse into orbit. thanks in advance everyone. Russ p.s. this is true whether I use vray sp3 or the new sp4
ruskie77
i've just up'd a screenshot... as you can see it consists of 1x sphere (with standard vray material applied) 1x camera (vray) bottom right viewport. 1x vray light all created in that order. nothing switched on in the rendering rollouts. (ie. GI=off VrayFB=off etc.) wierd huh?

erickdt
LMAO! I've definately been there before! But seriously... Is the a real problem? Edit: After reading your previous post I see that this is a real problem. Is you version of MAX up to date with all patches etc? I see you have the view cube in your viewport. When MAX 2009 first came out that thing would make it crash all of the time. The problem was solved when the AutoCAM files were disabled. I wonder if this is the same problem on with version 2010. Do a search here for disable viewcube and you should be able to locate the many threads that discussed the topic. ruskie77
well well well!!! you, sir (although I risk speaking too soon) would appear to be a genius! Viewcube is all switched off and (touch wood) there's been no crashes this morning... although, it'll be interesting to see what happens during the day.. Thanks for your help on that one! SandmanNinja
Viewcube is truly Satan's Spawn and belongs in a very special place in Hell. I think it's at the point now where Autodesk has paid someone to write it, they know it's bad, but they feel obligated to keep it - kind of like the widowed Aunt that keeps getting passed around. ruskie77
aha.... old autie viewcube is pretty bad, and nobody likes to talk to her, but couple her up with uncle nvidia on the christmas sherry and they get up to unspeakably disgusting things... uncle's new v191 drivers are doing some bad, illegal in some countrys, things with max. if you've got some latex gloves, take a hold, and roll back uncle's driver. Dont be scared, you only need to go 186 and that'll be enough to prevent further shenannigans. I find AutoCad work better with the roll back too. I hope this helps someone else too.
