olen
Hi, I was wondering what would be the setting for field of view closest to reality for sketchup. I am doing some renders of the exterior of the building and my boss keeps saying it looks too skewed. I started out with an FOV of 65 then dropped it to 50 then I went to 40 and even 30 to please her, but I have to wonder where reality would put it rather than opinion. I have found differing opinons ranging from 65 degrees to 35degrees. I think 65 is too much and makes even the most square of buildings look like Zaha did them, but Im not sure when it becomes too much like an orthagonal drawing. James Hannigan
35 is about normal, 60 is pretty wide and good for interiors and 1 is basically parallel projection.
aaronrumple
35mm cameras ship with 50mm lenses as standard, because when you put the camera in front of you - object don't appear to move closer or further away. It yields a "natural" view. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angle_of_view You'll see that 35 is a good value to work with for FOV....

stevel
If you have a building more than two stories high, you either need to position your camera far back from the building or widen the zoom to around 70mm or so. Otherwise you will get vertical distortion.
