Matt Sugden
Has anyone done this? I'm not sure if my company were to do this, who would own the rights to the model, as it seems from google's blurb they can basically do whatever they want to the data with regard to modifying redistributing it etc, however it goes on to suggest that 'government data' or 3rd party data belongs to the owner?!? I'm interested in modelling my local town, but I dont just want to hand the data to google and say, 'there you go, all my hard work for free and now you do what you like with it to make money' Edited November 20, 2009 by Bewdy
LordRaven
"'there you go, all my hard work for free and now you do what you like with it to make money' " As far as I know that's pretty much what's going to happen.
chuck
Can't you just make the kzm file available only to your community, instead of handing it over to google?
Matt Sugden
Could you eloborate a bit on this, how would I produce the KZM file? is that extension native to google earth?
Stephen Thomas
You can export KZM file from sketchup as far as I know. Check out the Google Earth website or the 3d warehouse thingy, will probably give you more info on exporting the map from Google Earth then re-importing your geometry back into Google Earth. There's no requirement for you to share the file with anyone you don't want to. You simply open the KMZ file in GE and the geometry appears on that particular machine only. alexg
If you want to make some money, then you might need to try make contact and deal with Google direct.
