Thablanch
Never had a unit setup issue with Vray. It works ok with anything, metric or imperial, no problem.
BrianKitts
No one unit setup is better than the other as long as you work with real world sized (regardless of unit type) elements. It's when you start building things in unrealistic sizing that you will be throwing off things like your mapping and IES lights.
aristocratic3d
I believe it, but it depends on display unit setup. if my display unit setup is feet. I can create a table two and half feet high in the system unit setup of centimeter. BUT WHEN I CHANGE THE SYSTEM UNIT SETUP TO INCHES THEN THAT TABLE DISPLAYS A HEIGHT OF 6.35 FEET. DO YOU WANT TO SAY THAT THE HEIGHT OF THE TABLE IN BOTH SYSTEM UNIT SETUP IS SAME. I HOPE NOT. DO YOU WANT TO SAY THAT, TWO TABLE RECEIVE EQUAL LIGHT WHEN THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT MEASUREMENT. kippu
actually IES lights depends on system units but the rest of the lighting is not dependent on the units , you can experiment for yourself and check it
Thablanch
BUT WHEN I CHANGE THE SYSTEM UNIT SETUP TO INCHES THEN THAT TABLE DISPLAYS A HEIGHT OF 6.35 FEET. You are telling Max what the units are in. So, you must set units before drawing stuff. If you set your units to feet, but import a table made in cm, it will convert it, cause the file has a unit proprety. You did draw something 6.35 units, you just have to decide what the units are. zhopudey
If you are going to import models/plans from another program, then set the system unit to whatever you used in that program. Never change the system unit after bringing any models into the scene. The display unit doesn't matter. You can change it whenever you want. Regarding your table: 1" = 2.54cm, so when you changed the system unit, the table got scaled by 2.54 times. Hence the resulting length of 6.35 feet.
