fadi3d
we need a new Lcd at the office (and myself) the problem is it seems all new (or almost) have 16:9 ratio which is a pain to work with in 3ds max or ps or even for viewing Pdfs. i know there are a few outhere like the new NEC or the new Dells but these are priced almost twice as much as in the US while i bought my samsung 2493 hm for a very reasonable price. my question is does any one of you guys know if this trend of manufactoring Lcds with 16:9 going to go and maybe return to 16:10 (maybe the new Oleds ?) thank u in advance
ihabkal
Hi Fadi, have you seen what pcandparts has to offer? there aren't a lot of options here in Lebanon. I think the 24"HP he has or the 25.5" Viewsonic if you want to spend more are the only good local options.
Koza43
Hi fadi3d. The reason why is more 16:9 lcd monitors is because of their cutting. Every lcd panel is cut off very large panel and in aspect ratio 16:9 there's better usability of that large panel. For OLED's i don't know since there's totally different manufacturing process of panels. from wiki: The radically different manufacturing process of OLEDs lends itself to many advantages over flat-panel displays made with LCD technology..... ...OLEDs enable a greater range of colours, gamut, brightness, contrast (both dynamic range and static) and viewing angle than LCDs because OLED pixels directly emit light. Sorry but i can't send you link because of rules of this forum which i support.

ihabkal
you can see and test drive the 30" Dell Ultrasharp LCD at my house if you want to drop in for a visit someday. Costed me $2000 imported from the US via Fedex. Dell Lebanon want that much money for a 24" Ultrasharp.

ihabkal
I always wondered how Dell Lebanon is in business? their prices are astronomical. Either they don't care about selling because their owner is a corrupted politician, or there are a lot of people who have too much money on their hands and want to give it away to Dell Lebanon. And we can meet anyday. it's not like we live in different cities. My office is in Mazraa. Edited December 7, 2009 by ihabkal

ihabkal
because of the Lebanese busienss mentality, which I have yet to comprehend!

ihabkal
I have 4 Samsungs, two I brought with me from the US in my suitcases and two I bought here last year. Samsung dealer in Lebanon didn't have 24" ones he only had low budget low quality small size crap at the time ( I think by now they have large ones) so I ended buying them form pcandparts. I don't know how he had the ones i wanted and the dealer didn't. That said my first lcd ever was a 19" Viewsonic that I bought from Best Buy and I think I made most moeny when I was working on it in my 1 bedroom appartment in Toledo Ohio. So that was my preferred one. Ah the good times...
fadi3d
my friend i see more strange things happen in lebanon (than a shop having merchendise which the dealer doesn't ) my first pro screen was an hitachi crt 19'' that cost me 600 US$ many a years ago and which still worked when i gave it to a friend a while ago.
