goulart
Hi there, I´m learning mental ray, coming from vray. I can reproduce almost everything in mental that I usually do in vray, but one thing is bugging me. The AA, to really look at the image and feel good about AA is taking too long to render, sometimes changing filters, contrast, and min/max, dont even produce a really difference on results but raises the render time... does someone got a really good tutorial , explanation about the MR AA? thanx Goulart. Crazy Homeless Guy
I have found AA in MR to be trailing behind Vray also. The best suggestion I have for speed is to render at 1to16 with Box of 1,1. Then perform sharpening in post. This will work for stills, but still leaves you hanging for animation. Justin Hunt
There is a shader around that can give you control over AA on a per object basis. Do a search on mymentalray.com jhv

Justin Hunt
I did download it but never got around to getting to try it. On the forum some did get it to work and even used it with proxies to great success. Personally I think it too much effort for a small gain. Certain scenes would benefit. generally I use 1, 16 Mitchell and only when necessary 4, 16 for stills and 1,4 Box at twice the final resolution, rescaled in post for animations. jhv
Crazy Homeless Guy
Yeah, I need to get back to testing that again, but it is going to be a couple of weeks before I have time.
