How is Modo?

I have been looking at a tutorial using Modo by Luxology and am amazed at its features. In particular the pen tool for box modeling seems revolutionary. Is there a similar tool in max...or a script? I get a headache every time I model in max and am wondering what everybody's experience with the software is.

We considered switching to Modo at some point due to its price point. The modeller is awesome - all round its a very good 3D app (made by the ex-lightwave team, I recall). Apparently Modo 401 is a bit buggy. Keep an eye on it, I reckon it will be a Max killer in the years to come.

Modo does indeed have a nice modeler. If a trial version is available, see if it works for you.

I've been using 401 for about 6 months, and haven't had problems with instability on my PC. However, I use Cinema 4d on larger or more complicated projects. Modo doesn't manage rendering memory as well, and it takes a lot of tinkering to set up materials.

Graphite tools - Clunky workflow if only tool bar driven. I have not used them-disclaimer.

That general functionality has been in Modo as an integral part of the application and work flow of SubD - Organic modeling. The sculpting tools, fall offs and such are really pretty decent in Modo.

The real advantage of MODO is work flow and efficiency of working. Modeling wise Modo can do what Max does and Vise versa. Keepin in mind for ArchViz Max is a very expensive plugin to convert AutoCad files and Modo is NOT Cad or Cad Like it is a polygon-subD modeling tool. If you want simplicity Sketch-up, you want lots of parametric driven tools C4D, if you really model in a polygonal method Modo is probably a very good fit.

Deep down would kind of dread having to go back to Max to model just about anything compared to modo. Applications are tools, bottom line what ever works best for you. There are trial versions avialable.

Thanks William for responding. I should have mentioned, that I do more complex hard surface modeling than anything else here lately. I was just wanting to know if Modo had more modeling tools that were specifically designed for that type of thing.

I downloaded the demo back when 301 first came out, but didnt give it much of a chance then, so I figured i would just ask here before trying the demo again.

Thanks again for taking the time
