xcidius
How do you go about cutting a 3d building sections in 3ds? I mostly use 3ds/vray/scanline and I wanted thoughts on how others go about cutting sections of your models. I enjoy the simplicity of sketchups section tool and am curious to others methods of doing this same procedure in 3ds. Right now the procedure I use would be to simply hide objects and Boolean anything else in the section plane I want to cut, but this obviously isn't the best way... I've heard of people posibly using a camera clipping plane??? All input and help is appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

CJI
I did a job that required multiple sections recently. The slice modifier was the only way i could do it without ruining the geometry. Not ideal but works well enough. I grouped the entire building applied the slice modifier to the group. Then opened the group selected a wall (which had the instanced slice modifier in it) and modified the slice plane to where i wanted. I then went in and tidyed the holes in the model and made sure material IDs were ok etc. A benefit of this is that its non destructive. a pain to manage but it does work. good luck.
