Clive Edwards
I have looked at all sorts of web sites and tutorials and I am unable to find anything close to a step by step guide(idiots guide in my case) to matching the camera view to a site photograph. Judging by the quality of the work posted it's hard to believe that this is all done by trial and error. What I have done is to load an image into the camera view and then try to match up the perspective of the camera view to the photo. Sometimes it's ok other times not. Does anyone have any advice as to where to go to get some better info. Any help much appreciated. Clive Edwards

JonRashid
I'm not sure where there are any tutorials but it's pretty straightforward if you understand the principle and will help where people have used not standard lenses etc. Take between 6 measurements of existing objects on the image that you can place accurately within your model. These should be in at least 2 planes (not all on 1 gable end wall for instance. I then create an image of the photgraph with these points marked clearly. Depends on your viewpoint resolution but clear enough to see as bgd. You then create these same points on your model. Carefully match the points (by number) in your viewport on the background. ie point 1 on model is same point 1 on image. Then solve. You may have to tweak some points if you havent been accurate but results are usually pretty good.

Clive Edwards
Thanks for the replies. Jon, are you saying that in the camera view you keep altering the camera's properties, position rotation FOV etc to match the points up. Thanks
JonRashid
No you move the markers in the camera view then solve. I only tweak the actual camera once max has got a good solution
thatch
You should check out Syntheyes, you can do single frame alignments from a photograph. specify a couple of lines in xyz and it will match the camera position and fov, then export to lightwave. Takes no time at all and the program is really cheap for the time you will save. http://www.ssontech.com/content/aligner.htm
