Crazy Homeless Guy
I am working on a renovation project. We want to show a mix of people from the eighteenth / nineteenth century, while also showing urban hipsters, and people in modern formal wear. These will be all int he same scene. So, .....anyone have a good idea or resource where I can find the eighteenth / nineteenth century people? Full bodies preferable of course. I am slowly gathering things from the web, but would be interested in other ideas. Thanks. Edited December 10, 2009 by Crazy Homeless Guy

Ernest Burden III
The US National Archive has a huge collection of scanned photos, which should be public domain. You could probably find a category (year range, historical event) that would yield a lot of images. http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/index.html http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/topics/ There's this: http://images.google.com/hosted/life not sure of usage rights. Crazy Homeless Guy
Dimas, Thanks for the links, but I am not sure they have what I am looking for. I am searching for images for compositing instead of 3d characters. Ernest, Good links. I am going to search them as soon as I get my deadline for the day out the door. Ernest Burden III
I have a nice collection of Nineteenth Century photographs. All are architecturally themed (well, some great sailing ships in port). Some have people. I can see what I've already scanned and send you some people. What is the timeframe? Crazy Homeless Guy
The expanded round for this project won't be fully due until mid of Feb., and will consist of 20 or so images. It would be greatly appreciated if you have anything you could share. We are wrapping up the initial round today. There wasn't a lot of time to develop the proper people for today, but I am looking Thanks.
BVI
Hey Travis, thats a tricky one. I would suggest a shoot, but I reckon the price would be high if you had to dress up the people in authentic garb etc Maybe you can rent a few costumes from a costume shop and dress up friends? Have you tried search http://www.dreamstime.com? ~$3 an image. Ill keep my eye out for any resources.

The Life photos are gorgeous, and easy to search through. ...but yes, I am willing to guess that we could potentially be opening ourselves to a lawsuit by using them. It took awhile, but I was finally able to figure out how to find images on the Archives website. Link below to search page limited to content that is digitally available online. And they have the copyright posted in one of the tabs for each image, and several seem to have no restrictions. http://arcweb.archives.gov/arc/action/AdvancedMultimediaSearchForm?%24locationFilter.detailId=-1&%24selectedDetailsPageModel.pageSize=1&%24showFullDescriptionTabs.selectedPaneId=&%24documentTypeFilter.detailId=0&%24DateFilter.name=DateFilter&%24selectedDetailsPageModel.currentPage=0&%24showArchivalDescriptionsTabs.selectedPaneId=&%24highlight=false&%24selectedDetailsPageModel.selectedResults=true&%24resultsPartitionPageModel.targetModel=true&%24showSelectedSummaryTabs.selectedPaneId=&%24partitionIndex=0&%24locationFilter.name=locationFilter&%24sort=RELEVANCE_ASC&%24submitId=2&%24selectedSummaryPageModel.targetModel=true&%24documentTypeFilter.name=documentTypeFilter&%24resultsPartitionPageModel.search=true&%24DateFilter.detailId=-1&%24showSelectedDetailsTabs.selectedPaneId=details&%24selectedDigiDetPageModel.currentPage=0&%24selectedDigiDetPageModel.resultPageModel=true&%24selectedSummaryPageModel.pageSize=10&%24searchId=21&%24levelOfDescriptionFilter.name=levelOfDescriptionFilter&%24levelOfDescriptionFilter.detailId=-1&%24selectedDigiSumPageModel.targetModel=true One of our designers cut out a few people that he found for our Friday deadline. Attached is a crop of one of the renderings, the crop is about 15% of one of the images. It still needs a lot of work on the foliage, but it went out as is for the first round. Hopefully I will find everything I need int he Archives, with no copyright restrictions. I cropped it because the project images are not public yet, but I think this is limited enough in its view that no one will know what it is, or what it is for. Ernest Burden III
Over the weekend, I remembered that I have a huge stockpile of scans of vintage photos. They range from the dawn of photography to WWII. There are a lot of people, though sorting through them is a slog. I created a series of zips, and will PM you with the links. Remember that just about any photo from before the nineteen twenties or thirties is going to be out of copyright.
