pipjor Posted December 17, 2009 Share Posted December 17, 2009 ???/s about 23.97, I'd like to try this frame rate on a current project as i'd like to take advantage of 3d motion blur(Brazil). 1. do you have to really choose your frame rate in 3ds as "film". isn't say 100 frames rendered out just 100 frames.. 2. In AE, I'll be setting up my workspace as 24 fps, but i'll have a few video clips shot at 30fps in the film as well, will this look funny when playing back at a 24 fps. thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
CJI Posted December 17, 2009 Share Posted December 17, 2009 Well you would be building up 6 frames every second so you would be adding an additional second on every four seconds. so a 12 secomd animation at 30fps would end up at 15seconds at 24 fps. This isn't always noticeable depending on the footage. You would have to test it, but slow down is enevitable. The time setting in max will effect how fast your time slider will play at when you preview your animation. So your timings in animation will be slightly diffirent weather you use 24 or 30 fps. Again wheather this is noticeable depends on what your animating. It's a case of suck it and see i think. Does it have to be rendered at 24fps? DanGrover Posted December 17, 2009 Share Posted December 17, 2009 There are also issues if you do any kind of realistic simulations - fluids, physics, ropes etc. They all typically rely on the FPS set to make their keyframes. I was once doing a slow motion physics calculation, and the only way I could get it to work properly was to set the FPS in Max to 200. It then simmed away and if I played it back, it played back at normal speed. If I changed it back to 25 FPS, it was all slow motion, and nice and smooth, too, because there was still a key on every frame. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I rendered animations at 24fps last year to save rendering time, and 30fps this year, big difference for me. I will never do a 24fps again.
