Hi,

I made a very simple scene (rough model, basic lighting) to check how much time I can gain with this or that CPU.

 

The goal is to find out the best « power Vs price » CPU. Nowadays, $$ seem to be important

 

It’s a Mental Ray scene so that all Max users can try and give feedbacks. Just hit render. You can find the scene HERE

Really interested in reading one of these tests. Could you post the link of a recent one which include core i7 and AMD 3/4 core.

are you looking for mental-ray specific results? if it's just processor performance question for rendering, frybench has a great sampling of results.....

Wow, I'm pretty amazed at how much quicker the i7 is vs the q6600. I know that was the budget core2quad, but still, each core is over double the speed. That's mental.

I think this benchmark is flawed, the main flaw it being hard to read, the second flaw is that it doesn't relate to vray rendering or mental ray rendering under max where the results would vary drastically.

... is all Cinebench but that is an awesome benchmark for all processor intensive applications. You will see the Xeons are up there with the i7s hot on their heels.
