Brian Smith
What's with global warming? Freeze warnings covered nearly all of Florida with temperatures expected to drop into the 20s. Freezing iguanas were seen falling out of trees in Florida; experts say the cold-blooded reptiles become immobilized when the temperature falls into the 40s and they lose their grip on the tree. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100107/ap_on_bi_ge/us_winter_weather

AJLynn
It's not global warming, it's just weather. Global warming is more of a tenth-of-a-degree-per-decade kind of thing. But it's kind of weird that it's so warm in Boston right now. Makes me want to go for a run.
BrianKitts
They were talking about the Florida orange growers on the radio this morning afraid of a frost killing off their entire crop. Said that the other night they survived but they're worried about the season still. I just can't imagine how bad it would be to lose your entire investment over something you can't control such as nature. I want a lizardcicle. where do you put the stick? JDillon
The Strawberry Festival just won't be the same this year in Florida without any strawberries. http://www.flstrawberryfestival.com/ This was the first year my daughter would be old enough to enjoy it. Oh well...

Billabong
Brian I didnt even noticed you lived in Sarasota. I was down there in August doing some contract work for Feld Entertainment. Thier actually in Palmetto or as they call it Palghetto(thier words) Really nice people though. They rented me a car and had me a house Anna Maria Island. It was insanely hot down there then though Sorry for the off topic -B Edited January 8, 2010 by Billabong
WAcky
We've got massive floods in the north and the south is in the worst drought seen for 100 years. Yes I think global warming is upon us. In 2008 in Melbourne we had a day above 45 celcius (113f) and I've seen some trees that are still scorched and dead on the western facing side and are yet to recover. The road melts and the power goes out when everyone turns on the AC then its back to days in the 20's! (60f)
Frosty
I WISH it was warm enough here to freeze lizards! My 1.5 mile walk to work consisted of a frantic shivering shuffle whilst trying to keep my face flexing so that exposed skin didn't freeze solid in under 4 minutes. It was -35C. Ernest Burden III
What's with global warming? We aren't supposed to call it that anymore--it's climate change now. Hot, cold, floods and drought, chaos, mayhem, raining lizards. It's all in there.
Frosty
It's all in there. I'm ok with it as long as it starts raining beer soon. It can be cheap beer. Just Beer. Now.

Frosty
Hahaha, Actually Brian. All of my friends are getting quite fed up with my beer snobbery. Since moving back to Manitoba, all I have been doing is criticizing our crappy beer selection here. The US is a beautiful place when it comes to craft beer. I LOOOOVE Dogfish Head Beer from Del. Oh and it actually warmed up here over the weekend so we went for a walk. This was the view of the Red River Skating Rink.
AJLynn
You guys have Unibroue. And La Face, Dieu du Ciel, St. Ambroise, Clos Saint-Denis.. And outside of Quebec... er... Molson Dry So we've got Dogfish Head, Harpoon, Green Flash, Brooklyn, Southern Tier, Smuttynose, Rogue, Ommegang, Three Floyds, Russian River, Stone, Founders, Bruery, Alesmith, Victory... is the US now the best beer country? Tommy L
Im English.....and I now think I prefer American craft beer. However, its a moot point. People like what they like. There was an interesting article on beer snobbery in the most recent Beer Advocate magazine about how detrimental beer snobbery (bs) can be to the craft beer industry. http://www.beeradvocate.com I recommend the magazine. It has great beer reviews.
Devin Johnston
Speaking of local beers has anyone ever tried Shiner, they have many different kinds but Shiner Bock is still my favorite. We've just had the coldest and earliest winter on record for this area of the country, the climate sure it changing it's getting colder.
AJLynn
I still say it's weather, not climate. Here it took a long ass time for winter to start. According to wunderground.com, Houston's normal range for this date is 41-62 F and it's in the 50's all week. Boston should be 22-37 and it's in the 20's-30's all week. Sarasota's average is in the 51-72 range and the forecasts for this week are in the 54-74 range, and Chicago, which is my standard for cold since my father moved there and I started visiting in months like December, should be 14-29 F and will be 25-34. Last week was a blip on the graph but nothing to get too excited about. It seems like we like to take local phenomena in weather (where local can refer to too-small samplings in time or space) and read them in the context of whatever the current thinking on climate (which is not weather) is. Remember when any time it rained it was because of El Nino (and when that didn't explain it it was La Nina). Weather fluctuates in unpredictable ways - failures in early attempts at computer modeling for weather prediction were the origin of chaos theory - and it's not caused by, or evidence for or against, global warming. You can only see global warming on graphs of several decades because you need many samples to average out to form a trend line. To get back on topic, yeah, Shiner Bock was my favorite when I lived in Houston. Never seen it outside of Texas.
Devin Johnston
I didn't mean that today is the coldest it's ever been but there have been many days since winter started here where we've met or beat the cold record. We also had snow here early last month which set another record for the earliest snow in Houston's history. I've been to Shiner Texas twice to tour the bruery, it's really cool to see the sorce of all those hangovers I had in college!
BrianKitts
hmmm..... global cooling???? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1242202/Could-30-years-global-COOLING.html?ITO=1490
AJLynn
No. These supposed scientists are idiots. I say this not because I disagree with them (though disagreeing with me on a scientific or technical matter is usually an indicator that somebody is wrong) but because they either don't understand, or ignore for political reasons, the fact that local minima are outliers that do not indicate a trend until they become statistically significant (i.e. no longer local). To put it another way, you can't go from the warmest decade on record (and the fifth warmest year on record) to a cold month and say that this means global warming is reversed.
