creaware
Years ago we purchased Cinema 4D XL 7.0 and downloaded two upgrades 7.1 and 7.2. Unfortunately we recently had computer problems and lost the two upgrades. Simple idea was to see where we can download them. Apparently it proved to be not that simple. There is no way to download them from the Maxon website and after several emails the message was, sorry we don't support you with those two upgrades anymore. We're talking about two simple upgrade packages that you wouldn't be able to use if you didn't have a legal product anyway !!! You'd expect somewhere in the Maxon company someone to have these two upgrades lying around on a cd in a drawer. The fact is that we paid good money for our licence. It still provided us with the functionality we need (so no need to further upgrades beyond 7.2). The two (7.1 and 7.2) upgrades contained some good improvements of the product, so we're quite unhappy. Does anyone have access to the two upgrades? We're more than happy to pay for any costs. Sketchrender
I used C4D a few years back and found the Custumer care excellent. It is quite common not to have upgardes that far back, i think you will find that with a lot of 3D companies. They want you to upgrade, and keep moving on for your own good. Phil PS. By the way your 1st post on a major CG website should not be one of complaint, the guys on this forum, are in the business for years as are you I am sure and know the way 3D companies work, it all about money, ie they want yours. creaware
Hi Phil I know their prime interest is to keep you buying new upgrades and take your money, but as I mentioned to them as well we are quite happy to pay a support fee. All they have to do is allow us to download the upgrades from somewhere. Can't imagine that the upgrade files are not somewhere on a server and they were free to download some years ago, so why not now? We're not asking for technical support... At this stage we don't need a higher version, so best they can accomplish by this attitude is an unhappy customer. I have seen many other software companies do a lot better. cianmcgrath
Operating systems change over the years and those updates can not be expected to work properly on new ones. Maxon support for me has been great over the years. Cian.
Frosty
I may have it in archive. Strat or Ernest might also. What OS?
STRAT
i dont have those older upgrades sorry. my last firm does, but not where i am now. i'm not surprised your local Maxon Help couldn't help. And i certainly wouldn't complain about not being able to put your hands on intermediate software upgrades which were superseded years ago, registered or not. yep, does sound frustrating though if 7.0 is all you want. I'd contact the main German support group explaining your problem thoroughly. They should be able to help. Try the CGTalk forums for a better idea of contact info. And dont be so rude and abrupt like you are in both forum post titles - people will be more open to help you if you keep your cool and stop ranting you know
Frosty
I no longer have this update file.
Ernest Burden III
I may have it in archive. Strat or Ernest might also. What OS? I started C4D at v8, so not here, either. And I have not had any problems with Maxon support, quite the opposite. Also, I think that being told 'we no longer have those files' does not qualify as sucky support. I understand why this would frustrate you, but if they are being honest and responsive, the problem isn't support. It's policy. I also agree with you that Maxon should have the files somewhere. Have you asked them for a solution--maybe they could ask around in their beta-tester group for the files? Otherwise, try asking on the CGtalk C4D forum. There are many more users there than here. By the way, what is it that you still want C4D v7 for?
AJLynn
You can't exactly say that their customer support sucks because they're not supporting a 9 year old version. Discontinuing support for sufficiently old versions is standard industry practice. That said, if you happen to use Mac, I think VersionTracker has those downloads. AJLynn
Really? Of the major full-featured packages I find C4D the most intuitive.
