Dave Buckley
Just something i've picked up from my latest copy of 3D World. There's a shader in max that is hidden. It's in the architectural_max.mi file and simply needs a # before it says "hidden". It should be called something like mia_bokeh and when unhidden it will give youa access to a lens shader for creating various DOF effects directly in Max. I know a lot of people prefer to do it in post, just thought it was worth sharing for those that haven't managed to pick up 3D World or maybe missed it while flicking through
Dave Buckley
works quite nicely too, will try it on a more intensive scene later to see the render time increase, took about 5 seconds to setup
thorsten hartmann
Hi David, the Photo Studio Final (Free Version) use the same Shader, but it give you a better Control and more Function: Dispersion, Chromatic Abberration. Try this.... http://www.infinity-vision.de/PhotoStudio/eng/index.html mfg hot chip
Dave Buckley
thanks for the link, didn't realise that your tools use the same shader. Good to know. While your here Thorsten . . . i'm trying to remember something from a while back. You may or may not know the answer, but its script/customiztion related. There was a more advanced toolbar for the viewport shading that was being used during the first demo's of 2010. I can't remember where to find it or how to unhide it. I have the script but i want to add it as a button to my script toolbar. Can any script be made into a button for a custom toolbar?
CJI
I just got it in the post yesterday and haven't had a chance to flick through it. Nice wee gem of info there. Thanks.
thorsten hartmann
Hi David, yes you can do it as a Button in Toolbar. Go to customize user interface -> Toolbar -> Category mental ray. Klick the Icon and per drag & drop in a toolbar. mfg hot chip
