Spooner04
This is an old design project from school I decided to redo in order to build up my portfolio a bit. Still a few things that need to be done. Lights and floor inside, maybe a car in the garage and a chair and plant outside. Also some flashing and other construction details. No post work yet, figured I'd get some C&C first and then finish. All mats and materials done by myself off of cgtextures except trees, they are bionatics models mapped w/ mats from old xfrog libraries.
BillyElNino
First thing I would look at is lining up your textures in a more realistic way. The floor (not sure what this material is?) needs the green banding to line up and begin at the edge of the building and for the tile size to fit with the ins and outs of the building footprint by scaling and resizing the texture. Same goes for the concrete, the movement joints should be either placed where the mesh begins/ends or halfway up. In terms of your camera position its difficult to know what we're looking at, is this an office / industrial building? Maybe think about pulling your camera back and getting a more inclusive angle? CJI
I agree with william in that your textures need some more work. Also what is the orange texture, if its some kind of composite paneling they look kind of spungy at the moment. I cant put my finger on why, i think its the way the bump mapping is effecting the tiled edges but they look kind of padded to me. Also is that balustrading across the windows on the right? if so there structure is so dark that they are kind of lost. Also like william said, what is the purpose of the building, if you want a tight focus like that there needs to be some sort of cluie as to what the building is. At the moment this isn't clear. Keep going though.
Spooner04
Hey guys, Thanks for the comments. It is actually a residence for a sculptor with and attached studio/gallery. The area that you commented to on the right is a guard rail for a balcony with the glazing of the bedrooms behind it. I think if I put some designer outdoor furniture up there and maybe a person or two it might help. Maybe a car in the parking lot and the drive. The area in the foreground is supposed to be concrete slabs with strips of grass in between for a driveway/parking. I was trying to make it look like a 'rock salt' treatment. It didn't quite come out. I'll definitely keep working on that more. As for the orange piece it is supposed to be stucco. I think I put to wide of a chamfer on it before the turbo smooth and that's why it looks kind of pillowy. I was messing with that and the concrete last night. Here's where I am now, also turned on the trees and grass in the background. Still needs some more work on the textures. Thanks for the comments and crits.
