Terragen vs Vue?

This is an old thread, but figured I could still add a comment. I suggest you give Terragen 2 a look. The free edition should be available on version 2.2 shortly. From my very slight experience with Vue it seemed you needed to up the default quality settings way higher to achieve acceptable render quality and accept the resulting steep increase in render time. Render quality in Terragen is excellent, but you may need to spend more time in setting up a scene, particularly where heavy vegetation is involved. The price is definitely on the low side compared to other tools and user community, while modest is very helpful and active.

I've used to both and to be honest Vue is ahead of Terragen in terms of tools and such. Vue also has millions of dollars of R&D and a huge programming team - it's used by ILM for mattes and massive terrained areas. Vue also has xstream plugins for most of the big 3D software apps for integration.

Terragen has some stunning images in its gallery, and they have done some awesome stuff with version 2 (which was in development for many years) - but I think that Vue is more main-streamed and artist focused.
