Glossy setings for animation

I am a first time user of Vray and I have a few questions about a particular image I've been working on.

 

I've done some research on blurry refractions and reflections and gotten some really good results using interpolation. But I've read that you should not use interpolation with animations.

 

So my question is what could you use to get good blurry refrac/reflec for animations?

 

Also in the image I've posted you can see some light leaks coming from under the running track. The geometry goes all the way through but for some reason it looks as though its stoping short. Is there a work around for this?

There's no reason you can't use glossy reflection/refraction in animation.... it's just better to not use interpolation with it because it tends to cause flickering. So you're just going to get a hit on your render time by turning the interp off.

 

(I cringe when I have to animate scenes with a large section of frosted glass like that because I know it's going to shoot my frame times right in the foot)

 

As for the light leak that's probably just a matter of correcting your irradiance settings. What are you using for hemispherical subdivs & Interp. samples?

If you are trying to render out a composite for a glossy glass handrail or floor, I would render everything else as a matte with a -1 alpha contribution, and save as a format that supports alpha. This will give you an isolated object, with a alpha for compositing on top.

 

There are threads about full render elements, but I am not skilled enough with that process to really give advice on it.
