Preparing line work for 3dsmax in Autocad - 3DSout command

Hi,

Is anyone familiar with using the 3DSOUT command, used in Autocad up to version 2004? Is there another command in later versions that works similar

to this command?

 

There is a working method that I am trying to learn from Brian L. Smith on preparing line work in Autocad for 3DSMAX. He mentions that this command is critical to the working method. How can I use this working method if I have a later version of Autocad?

 

Any thoughts?

wow i never knew that they released that , i alway kept hoping for it and had to use filelinking for importing a dwg.. thanks beverly

I am not sure I would consider this an advantage over DWG FileLink. FileLink is very useful, and DWG's are fairly easy to manage.

DWG FileLink has one disadvantage (in my opinion). The advantages are obvious, but the disadvantage I have encountered using Civil3D and Object Enablers is a pain and annoying. Even with the Object Enablers installed you still get an error/warning message when you Link a drawing. That's the only reason I use 3dsout.

Also, the dwg linking, generates a lot of duplicated geometry. It makes more big files.
