andy shand
I recently got one of these 1gb cards for a max2008 on xp64 to replace an old quadra. anyway it seems ok under directx 9..handles larger scenes better but nothing special. seems like i cant get the benefit of directx10.1 since that driver was only written for vista. i tried running max2008 under windows7 proffesional.. seems like i can only get directx10 for that platform and somehow it seems real bad for max. Rectangles are split into two triangles and large scenes are invisble in wireline!! im just hoping its some settings that need adjusting although i cant really see where they might be. so anyone using this card under max to its fullest ability?? ihabkal
I have a 3870 X2 (dual GPU) and I tried it with max 2009, windows 7 x64, and direct X10 and you know what? it doesn't work. The guys at Autodesk still need to make DirectX 10 work with max. Until then don't waste your time... Oh I also tried max 2010 with Direct X 10 and it didn't work. andy shand
thanks a lot for that reply.. probably saved me a few hours of wasted time:) in fact i wasnt blown away by windows7 running 2008 in directx 9.. xp64 with this card using directx9 seems to be a very comfortable workstation ..especially for the larger scenes ..cant put my finger on it but windows7 might be wasting rescources where it doesnt matter. AJLynn
XP64 does not run DX10 - DX10 is a Vista/7 only feature. The DX10 features in Max could be causing your issues. Make sure you have the most recent drivers, and if it's still causing problems try DX9.

I agree. I skipped Vista entirely and went from Win XP 32 to Win 7 32, then 64. Windows 7 32 ran as good as XP for me, so I expected a little improvement when switching to 64. What a disappointment. It feels more "heavy" and sluggish, and when I render something in Max or Revit it bogs down just about everything else, as if it can't multitask anymore (I've got an intel q6600 quad core and 4 gigs RAM). I'm running both apps in x64, mind you. Just a year ago I was rendering in one instance of Revit 09 and working on the project in another one, while having all manner of other programs opened, and I was expecting to take it to the next level with the new OS. I'm starting to think that the extra 700 or so RAM gained for switching to x64 aren't worth all the problems I'm having. I'll be back on XP soon if I don't find some magical switch to stop it from working like utter crap.
