ihabkal
Let me jsut say I never played the game, don't know the rules, doesn't interest me, I know nothing and I don't want to know anything about it. I don't care for Football either. Not even Soccer. But I do want my kid to play baseball. We don't have it here. What you might find funny or the opposite, is that my wife, (we are all Lebanese Arabs here except my S0n he is a US citizen), she was telling my 7 years old son a few minutes ago that she wants him to learn baseball so when he goes back to the US or Canada he can make friends and play with them. So my son said why can't I make friends with other things I do? So she told him no you can't make friends if you only know how to shoot a gun. He is the new generation, the after the war generation. AJLynn
Wow. Ihab, you have a way of putting things in perspective. To be fair, depending on what part of the US or Canada you want to live in, soccer, football, hockey or shooting guns (not joking about that part) might be much better for making friends than baseball. Youth and high school baseball aren't as important as they used to be.
Crazy Homeless Guy
It might be easier to teach your son basketball to make friends. You can play a game of hoops with two people, meaning it doesn't take much, or a lot of planning to start a game. Try that with any others listed besides shooting. I agree with A.J. on baseball. I feel it is mostly a slow dying sport here in the U.S.. I would say people go to baseball games for camaraderie, beer, and hot dogs, as much as they go for the actual game. Though I don't have kids, so maybe I don't know what I am talking about. My nephew seems to love baseball.
anejo
I would think that a 7 year old would have a lot of problems staying focus playing defense in baseball. not enough action. basketball is fun game to play and watch i would recommend it. My 7 year old daughter plays basketball for her 3rd grade class and really likes. And it's not just playing basketball that she like but the whole team concept which includes getting together with the whole team after the game for things like ice cream. Frosty
I agree with the other posts but would like to add that Soccer is quite popular as child's organized sport. Hello soccer moms. Also, if you are seriously interested in Canada, there is really only one sport to think about. It starts with an H and ends in ockey. One of the players on JR Team Canada is the son of a middle eastern immigrant too. I'll bet ice time is pretty hard to find over there though eh! At least understand the game a little bit - read a book, watch a movie. Know who wore number 9 for Montreal, number 9 for Detroit, number 4 for Boston, 99, and who scored "The Goal". ihabkal
I willl sure check on Hockey, it would be great to be integrated in the society and feel part of it, sports are a great way. Also the infamous violence in Hockey will make us feel right at home.
