Peter M. Gruhn
I'm only on the laptop now. Somewhere out there is a great tutorial on hard surface modelling. It's, I think, in three parts. He doesn't model any actual things, just little bits of form. More later when I can show better.

Thablanch
I suggest you start by some tutorials on this very site: http://www.cgarchitect.com/resources/tutorials/smoke3d/default.asp As well, 3dtotal tutorial section is great. My suggestion would be to look at other stuff as well. If you are able to model an animal or something organic, it will be so easy for you to model furniture or anything else after. visual_elements
thanks Alain... will go through the tips from cgarchitect.. Let me explain my situation little bit more precisely.. If i get all plans and elevations it may be easier to model in max but my situation is different. i work as a concept architect developing forms and trying out various combinations of form elements to get the right massing. i only have the plan when i start in max... what should be my workflow.. will max be suitable for me. thanks manoj
Thablanch
There was a couple discussions on this forum about that. I guess everybody likes a specific workflow. For my part, I always do everything in max, even if I have no cad drawings, some other people like the acad>Max workflow better. Everything you can do in Cad with masses, you can do in Max. It is just preferences. As I said, read a little, make simple tuts. and build your own opinion.
DanGrover
thanks peter.. if u find it, please send me the link.. regards manoj He may well mean these - or, if not, they're fantastic anyway. Scroll down to the "polygon modellling" bit. They are gearing up to making a car, but really they apply to basically anything. http://www.onnovanbraam.com/index.php?tutorials/

braddewald
Just google: 3ds max box modeling tutorial. Some good stuff should come up that will let you see the power of editable polys. I too model in cad and hardly ever with max unless it is something organic or dealing with curves. I used lynda.com training for 3ds max and I believe it gave me an excellent foundation of modeling, although it does require a subscription.
