odyzmil
Hello all, I'm facing a big problem when it comes to saving my file and file size. For some reason it seems now when I'm saving my work, the file size increases dramatically (from 500kb file to 1.5GB file!!) Even with an empty scene (having deleted all the modelling in the file) still when saving the file it's no less than 1GB. Anyone else facing this problem? I'm not really sure if it has anything to do with a plugin installed (I have installed Vue Xstream 8 lately) or if my file is corrupted for some reason. I cant get my head around this and I know that a fresh install of 3D max wont problem solve the problem. Creating a new file from scratch however saves with a normal file size so Im wondering whether my project is corrupted. Thanks in advance
JonRashid
Sounds like a corruption. Just open new file and merge all from old file. See if that helps.
odyzmil
Unfortunately it doesnt work either. Even if I merge just one polygon from the old file to a new one it still saves it as a very huge file (to be exact 1.45GB!!!). Im wondering whether this corruption has been created randomly or by a plugin and if anyone knows any way to check for a corrupted file
ihabkal
if it is just thios file that is causing problems, then it is probalby a plugin or Vue...
JonRashid
if disabling plugins doesnt fix it. Export to different format and re-import.
odyzmil
JonRashid thanks for your replies.. I think your solution is the only way to save my work. Im probably gonna export it into FBX or 3DS and just correct my materials instead of working from scratch. It's the only solution to this problem i guess
amer abidi
...and what a lousy solution!! I often keep saving in increments.. file03..file04..file04_2..file03.. and so on, and i save everytime i add something new or before i use a new plugin in the scene or carry out a major change. I would rather step back to the file state i want than ever be forced to export my scene to another format and lose so much data and info in the process. Sorry to hear about your predicament, but please let us know how it gets along for future reference. Good luck.
odyzmil
The thing is I never added a new plugin or anything apart from my standard plugins im using on all my projects. And I always do an incremental save but I can't keep saving every time I add something new,its a tedious work. Anyway the problem is that my previous versions are the same as well so Im assuming something went wrong from the beginning. I think the problem occured when I installed Vue Xstream 8 during those days.

Scott Schroeder
Make sure Compress On Save is checked in your Files -> Preferences. I can't remember when, but they started to not have this checked on by default. It really increases your file size. There is no issue for having it on other than a wee bit longer load time, we're talking microseconds to maybe one second extra. Unless you have just a massive file with all sorts of non-instanced heavy geometry. Also, check the other posts about seeing if you have motion files in your scene. Those little buggers can really increase your file size as well. There are scripts that will clear them for you.
