Lester_Masterson
I have a stack of odd shapes and I wish to "wrap" them in a mesh (like wrapping paper). I tried the Cloth modifier with little success. In order to get the shape I was looking for, it was taking over an hour per step. This seems excessive and did not work very well. Is there a better method to do this or am I doing something wrong?
BrianKitts
how complex are the meshes?.... you might want to check out the conform and morph tools (in the create panel -> compound objects)
chiquito
an image would help....
Jimy
You could manually do it with low res poly modelling and then turbosmooth it to get a smoother result? That's if you really need to be specific where it folds over to. If your not too worried about controlling it some of the physical dynamics stuff (like reactor) might be OK, but it always take a bit of fiddling. Maybe negative spherical gravity in the middle of your objects that would "suck" something like reactor cloth onto the forms?
Justin Hunt
If you are on Max2010 take a look at the topology tools in the Graphite modeling. You can draw new polygons onto a surface so that it conforms to that surface. jhv
Lester_Masterson
Thanks everyone. I'll take a look at some of these suggestions. To be more specific, say you have a sphere on top of a box, and you wish to "wrap" a fabric tightly around it ( so the corners of the box and the sphere is implied ) It's a bit more complicated then that. Like a gift basket wrapped in cellophane. Cheers
