Hi guys,

Sorry to bother you with such stupid question..I need some guidance on how to make use of measurement when modeling a room...Is there specific measurement i should follow? Any tutorials out there to show?

I am a maya user, but i am sure A tutorials about measurements in any other 3D package can be used in maya..

Thanx

I typically work in metric, so either millimeters or meters. Usually starting from an AutoCAD drawing which would be drawn to scale. (1mm=1mm)

Just make sure your unit settings within max are correct and you can then for example 'extrude' in meters. Alternatively you can use the x,y,z transform type in's at the bottom of the screen or use keyboard entry to create standard geometry to the correct size.

Im not sure if this answers your question.....good luck.

Hi Bobaki

Maya unfortunately does not work like max with scale units as such. You are able to set the unit information but generally you make your scale what you want.

To change the units go to Window --> Settings and Preferences --> Preferences.

Then click on the settings option just above animation. Here you will see working units under linear drop down box pick your option i.e cm, mm etc

The way this works is then the grid becomes relevant to this scale so for example

1 maya unit = 1 cm or if you work 1/10 then 1 maya unit = 10cm

so if you wanted a wall 2.4 m high and 50 cm wide and you were working in 1 unit is 10cm

Then you can create a cube and scale the

y axis to 24

x axis to 5

this would be 2.4 meters by 50 cm

Hope this makes sense?
